About our Sablan family!

Juan and Manuel Zablan arrived on Guam as part of the Spanish Armada in the early 1800s, circa 1825. The Zablan brothers are of French - Malaysian descent and served as Army officers. Both Married Chamorro women of Spanish descent. The Zablan surname was later changed to Sablan by the Spanish government as the the Spanish alphabet did not have the letter "Z". Descendants of Juan and Manuel thrived and, to this day, continue to contribute to the communities they're in worldwide especially here in Guam, Northern Marianas, Hawaii and other states.

The Sablan coat of arms has great significance as it characterizes the positive and noble traits of the Sablan lineage.
The surname Sablan was first found in the regions of Artois, Calais, and Flanders, where bearers of the family name have existed since early times. The name is thought to be derived from an old French place named Sablon, which was located near Calais in Medieval times.
Knight Coat of Arms, Family Crest and Knight Family History:
The Knight family crest (or coat of arms) came into existence many centuries ago. Knight is an occupational name meaning ‘man at arms’.
The sword is said to be the emblem of military honor and should incite the bearer to a just and generous pursuit of honor and virtue. In heraldry, it is symbolic of liberty and strength. In the Middle Ages, the sword was often used as a symbol of the word of God. The sword (especially borne with flames) is also a symbol of purification. When borne with a cross in the same field, the sword signifies the defense of the Christian faith.

The anchor is the emblem of salvation and hope. It is also an appropriate device for the coat of arms of a family with a seafaring tradition.

Colors:

The red band going across the top of the shield stands for authority or domination of will, a prize for prudence and wisdom or a successful command in war.

Blue is for truth and loyalty.

Gold for wisdom and elevation of the mind, and generosity as well. Biba Sablan!!!
